• It is spring!

We are finally well into spring now!  And we have BABIES!  Baby cows, baby goats, baby chicks!  The flowers are starting to wake up and new ones are on their way to growing big for the bees.  We just picked up our order of 30+ perennials and need to get them in the ground for the bees to thrive on.  Thankfully, the currants are well in bloom and attracting the bees now.

Now to go back to the babies!  We bred three mama goats and all three delivered healthy babies.  We were blessed with 4 boys and 1 precious girl, that will be a future milker!  She's a beauty!

16 chicks hatched and all are thriving!  They are only a couple weeks old, so we still have 4.5 months until they start blessing us with their eggs.  They are adorable!

  • Whoa--It's summer already!

It's hard to believe that it's summer already!  Seriously--where did spring go??  Well, let me tell you!  Baby calves being born, monitoring goat mamas to be, fence fixing, flower planting for our 5 beehives, brushing out our cashmere goats, shearing alpacas, praying for rain again and again.

The prairie is dry and it's hot right now....Rain is supposed to be coming.....we will keep praying!

  • Soooo slow!

Soooo slow to get this written. Where has the time gone??  Well, let me tell you--baby goats (born later than we thought), breech calf, spring garden planting, new bees, rain, hail, rain!

Our mama goat didn't take to breeding the first time we exposed her--so glad we put her back in with the buck the second time!  However, that made a later in the year delivery, so we are just now starting to milk.  Mama safely delivered 2 healthy boys.  She is a first time mama, so it's always nerve racking.  She did soooo well tho!  She has been one good mama!  She let them nurse right away without being too confused about what was going on.  Always a plus!  However, she does NOT like the milking machine!  She's a wild and crazy girl and only wants her grain.  Hopefully with more time, she'll be settled and easier to milk.

One of our mama cows had a breech baby that we couldn't save.  It is always heartwrenching to lose an animal.  That was not a good day!

Gardening season--always a favorite!  However, we have been hit by lots of rain--approx 24" so far this year AND hail a few times.  I replanted several things, but when they were hit again, time to be done.  I just harvested our 1st cucumber of the season (plants that were replanted) and also 6 garlics.  Our tomatoes are in the greenhouse this year, with rotation.  They are sky high and loaded.  Looking forward to canning more salsa this season.

Life on the prairie can be brutal sometimes, but it's amazing what blessings still come.  PTL!

I will add new pictures of animals and plants.  Enjoy!
